Fast facts:

  • In March 2010, Sucrogen became the new corporate name and identity for CSR Sugar.
  • Sucrogen is the largest raw sugar producer in Australia and the eighth largest producer globally.
  • The name Sucrogen embraces both our sugar business and our growing focus on renewable energy sources through cogeneration.
  • Sucrogen owns seven sugar mills. The principal product is raw sugar of which it produces in total 2.1 million tonnes per year. By-products include molasses (used to produce ethanol and also sold as stockfeed) and bagasse, the latter used in electricity generation.
  • Sucrogen generates electricity from cogeneration operations at each of its seven sugar mills. It is Australia’s largest renewable energy generator from biomass (bagasse), with a total cogeneration capacity of 171 megawatts.
  • The colourful Sucrogen logo represents an energy drop. The shape represents the sugar squeezed from the cane. The colour forms a spectrum of light, symbolising the purest form of 'positive energy'.
  • In December 2010, Sucrogen was acquired by Wilmar International Limited, Asia's largest agribusiness.
