Farming
Sucrogen owns almost 2500 hectares of prime agricultural land in Queensland's Burdekin region, supplied with water from the Burdekin Haughton Water Supply Scheme. The cane land is located at three sites around Clare, about 50km west of Ayr. We also own two cane harvesting groups, both of which harvest about 150,000 tonnes of cane each season.
Re-energising our farming system
We’re undertaking a staged process to revitalise our farms to achieve a best management practice farming system which includes:
- Irrigation scheduling based on soil water content;
- Tail water recycling of irrigation water;
- Industry-standard nutrient calculation
- An integrated pest management program;
- Controlling traffic movement to minimise soil compaction.
